Our commitment to sustainability

Since launching in 2009 sustainability has been at the heart of everything we make here at noctu. From the materials we use and the people who make our clothes to the natural environment.

We strive to minimise our ecological footprint, promote ethical practices, and inspire positive change within the fashion industry.

Below are some frequently asked questions about our environmental and social commitments.

Q: What makes your pyjamas sustainable?

A: Our pyjamas are made from 100% organic cotton, carefully sourced from GOTS certified producers. All of our cotton is Oeko-Tex certified too which certifies that every component of the product, from the fabric to the thread and accessories, has been rigorously tested against a list of up to 350 toxic chemicals.

We only use fabrics that are grown and processed without harmful chemicals, reducing the environmental impact of our products. By choosing sustainable options, we reduce the use of pesticides, conserve water, and minimise pollution associated with conventional textile production

Q: Are your pyjamas ethically made?

A: Yes, we have a small team of wonderfully talented seamstresses, here in England, who take great care in producing the highest quality pieces, ensuring comfort and longevity. We are committed to ethical manufacturing practices. All of our nightwear is made in England where we prioritise good wages, safe working conditions, and workers' rights.

Q: What is your social and environmental impact?

We always consider the broader social and environmental impact of our operations and as such, engage in fair trade practices with the farmers who grow our cotton to the makers who sew each piece. We also contribute to the World Land Trust and donate money from each sale to purchase 10sqm of endangered wildlife. Beyond this we strive to minimise our carbon footprint by implementing energy-efficient practices, reducing water usage, and carbon offsetting our mail order deliveries.

Q: Do you follow ‘Circular Economy Practices’?

As a Sustainable clothing label we embrace circular economy principles, reduce, reuse, recycle, aiming to create a closed-loop system. For us this involves designing garments for durability and longevity, our clothing is made to last and be worn and washed many, many times over. By using exclusively organic cotton and no synthetic materials our cotton is biodegradable both anaerobically (without oxygen) and aerobically (with oxygen). So at the end of its life it will leave no trace.

Q: How do you package your products sustainably?

A: We are committed to minimising waste and using eco-friendly packaging. Our pyjamas are packaged in recyclable and biodegradable materials. We use tissue paper and paper mail bags which we encourage you to recycle. We don’t use plastic in any of our packaging.

Q: Can I recycle my old pyjamas with you?

A: While we don't have a specific recycling program in place, we encourage our customers to donate or repurpose their old pyjamas. Many local organisations accept textile donations, and there are creative ways to upcycle old garments into new items.

Q: How do you give back to the community or support charitable causes?

A: Giving back is an integral part of our business. For every single purchase made, we donate enough money to save 10sqm of endangered wildlife in partnership with the World Land Trust. We believe in using our platform to make a positive impact.

Q: Can I find your pyjamas in physical stores?

A: Currently, our pyjamas are only available for purchase through our website. This allows us to maintain control over the quality and sustainability of our products.
